Magdalen Islands

In the early 1760s, Acadians made their way to the Iles de la Madeleine from Ile Royale, Ile St. Jean, and the Baie des Chaleurs. Acadians that made the move included: Arseneau, Boudreau, Chiasson, Doucet, Hache-Gallant, and Poirier. The first settlement area was at Havre-Aubert. Richard Gridley of Boston received the concession for the islands and began putting the island residents to work for him in 1762. They took an oath of allegiance in 1765. Additional Acadians migrated there in 1772 and 1793 specifically. Iles de la Madeleine, 1755
